Color Difference Measurement​​

Spectrophotometer is used for colour measurement.

Resulting colour units are L*a*b* (CIELAB).
CIE Colour Space Notation
∆L* = difference in lightness/darkness value
+ = lighter, – = darker
∆a* = difference on red/green axis
+ = redder, – = greener
∆b* = difference on yellow/blue axis
+ = yellower, – = bluer
∆E* = total colour difference value
The ∆E* can be calculated by this equation.

∆E* = [(∆L) 2+(∆a)2 +(∆b)2]1/2

The acceptable ∆E* value is <1.0

Yellowness Index Measurement​

Yellowness Index (YI) can be identified by using Spectrophotometer. Change in YI (∆YI) of a test sample from clear or white toward yellow compare to test standard can be calculated by this equation.


If ∆YI is positive value, it mean that test sample (SAMPLE) is more yellow than test standard (STD).

If ∆YI is negative value, it mean that test standard (STD) is more yellow than test sample (SAMPLE).

This test is most commonly used to evaluate colour changes in a material caused by real or simulated outdoor exposure.

Tensile Properties Testing​​

Universal Testing Machine is used to test Tensile properties of plastic. The testing is performed by following ASTM D638.

Flexural Properties Testing​

Universal Testing Machine and a three point bend fixture is used to test Flexural properties of plastic. The testing is performed following ASTM D790.

Impact Resistance Testing​​

The IZOD Impact testing machine with standardized pendulum-type hammers is use to measure Impact Resistance of Plastic by breaking specimens with one pendulum swing. The standard tests require specimens made with a milled notch. The results are reported in terms of energy absorbed per unit of specimen width or per unit of cross-sectional area under the notch. The testing is performed following ASTM D256.

Melt Flow Index Measurement​​

Extrusion Plastometer is used to measure the rate of extrusion of molten thermoplastic resin through a die of a specified length and diameter. The prescribed conditions of temperature, load, and piston position in measurement follow ASTM D1238. The units of measure are grams of material/10 minutes (g/10 min).

Density Measurement​​

The Density Measurement is performed following ASTM D792. The results are the specific gravity (relative density) and density of solid plastics.

Melting Temperature Measurement​​

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) is used to study Thermal Properties of plastic such as Melting Temperature (Tm), Glass Transition Temperature (Tg) and Degradation Temperature (Td).

Hardness Testing​

Hardness Testing Equipment is used to measure Hardness of Plastics. There are two most common scales, the ASTM D2240 type A and type D scales.

The A scale is for softer plastics, while the D scale is for harder ones.

Flammability Testing​

Plastic material can easily ignite when exposed to sufficient heat in the presence of oxygen. By adding flame retardant chemicals, it will prevent or minimize the combustion of plastic material.

The flammability Testing is use to study burning behavior of plastic material.

The testing is performed following UL-94 Standard.

Electrical Resistance Measurement​

Electrical Resistance Measurement Equipment is used to measure Volume resistivity (Rv) and Surface resistivity (Rs). The measurement is performed following ASTM D257.

Normally, Plastic is considered as an insulating material, Rs is 1015 – 1017 ohms.

The higher the surface/volume resistivity, the less conductive the material is

Surface Resistivity is expressed in ohms (per square)
Volume Resistivity is expressed in ohms – cm

Moisture Measurement​​

The Moisture Analyzer Balance is used to determine the moisture content in small samples of materials by drying the sample. By comparing the initial weight with the final weight (after the drying), the moisture content by means of the difference in weight can be determined.
